[Radio static; radiator hum]

Radio static; radiator hum;

Three walls and a closed fourth.

Drip of inorganic anti-freeze

Wept out upon the floor.

Engine idle; parking brake;

Wispy tendrils of dinosaur-gas.

Windshield-wiper screech:

Rubber dragged across dry glass.

Capacity cloud; tired air:

Lungs filled with a foreign warmth.

Fast food refuse, Little Trees —

Staring blankly out and toward

Roads still unmet; a tire’s tread —

The dark-grey ocean yet to pass.

Lost but tethered to a worn wheel

With a mapquest printout on the dash.

Destination-nearing after countless miles;

Tear-stained cheeks and a frozen smile.

Nearer now is a place to rest,

And a final lungful of monoxide-breath
