"Waking Dream"

There’s no other place I’d rather you be

Than laying here, curled up ‘gainst me.

I feel your breath glide steadily;

Even angels need their beauty sleep.

And in the morning as the world awakes,

Those dreams we shared would not forsake.

For in living our lives together we would create

That very paradise in our own world each day.

A happiness known but to you and I,
Like once-caged birds against the sky.
We’ll spread our tattered wings and fly
Because you are here with me tonight.
